After Violence, Good Sense Prevailed in Rato Machhindranath Chariot Festival.
Earlier on Sept 3rd, Nepal police had prevented the rally due to the COVID-19 lockdown placed by government. Thousands in the crowd defied the order given by the police, which led the police to use tear gas, and water canon to disperse the crowd. Curfew was also enforced the following day.
The organizers of the centuries old festival later decided to carry out the festival with safety measures and precautions and was resumed on Sunday.
Devotees and chariot pullers were seen in masks and face shields. There was heavy presence of local law enforcement.
