Nirmal Purja aka Nimsdai is pushing for dual citizenship for Non-Resident Nepalese (NRN).
In his recent social media posts, @nimsdai have appealed to only “Nepalese Citizens or NRN’s to sign the petition, to build the strongest case with the Nepal Government.”
President Ramchandra Paudel signed the Citizenship Amendment Bill into law on May 31st, 2023. However, the Supreme Court has issued an Interim Order restraining the government from implementing the new bill. On Sunday, June 4th, the court served the Nepal Government a notice, demanding an explanation for the significance and necessity of the proposed citizenship bill that warrants its enactment into law.
Nirmal appeals to the Supreme Court to acknowledge the merits of the Nepal Government’s new Bill, despite the Interim Order issued against it. He writes that, it is now the responsibility of the Nepal Government to respond and provide an explanation for why the bill is beneficial for the people of Nepal and should be enacted as law.
It is crucial to assist millions of Non-Resident Nepalese in improving their lives, both in Nepal and in their new adopted countries.
As of this writing, 1.6k have signed the petition on Positive Change Nepal website.
SPREAD THE MESSAGE – It’s time for change. Did you know that around 30% of the economy of Nepal is supported by Non- Resident Nepalis (NRNs) living abroad and sending money home to support families? This is a huge contributor to the economy.
