Rashila Tamang, a 22-year-old trail runner from Dhading, Nepal, made history on Dec 4th, 2023, by becoming the first Nepali athlete to win the prestigious Asia Trail Master Championship. In a remarkable performance at the final in Solo, Indonesia, Tamang completed the challenging 77-kilometer course in 12 hours, 25 minutes, and 52 seconds, outpacing her competitors.
Starting her race at 6 AM local time from Sekipan Tawangmangu in Central Java, Tamang displayed exceptional endurance and skill. She surpassed Belgium’s Vanja Cnops, finishing the race ahead of her. Following Tamang were Vanja Cnops and Angelie Cabalo from the Philippines, who completed the course in 12 hours, 32 minutes, 16 seconds, and 14 hours, 3 seconds, 37 seconds respectively, securing the second and third positions.
Rashila’s victory is a significant milestone in the championship’s history since its inception in 2014, marking her as the first Nepali champion in the event. Her achievement is a proud moment for Nepal and an inspiration for aspiring athletes, highlighting the nation’s growing presence in international trail running competitions.
