On 7 June, the Government of Lithuania decided to offer humanitarian aid to Nepal, which has been hit by a severe outbreak of COVID-19.
On 10 May, Nepal appealed to the international community to help it with medicines and equipment to support the efforts to save lives. From January 2020 to June 2021, about 576 thousand COVID cases and about 7.6 thousand deaths were reported in Nepal. On 1 June, an average number of COVID-19 cases in last 7 days in Nepal amounted to over 5, 000 infections and 108 deaths.
Lithuania will donate 5 breathing machines (mechanical ventilators) and 20 oxygen inhalers from the state reserve, which is administered by the Ministry of Health of Lithuania. The total value of the humanitarian aid to be provided amounts to almost EUR 50, 000.
In cooperation with the Embassy of Lithuania in India, the Fire and Rescue Department under the Ministry of the Interior of Lithuania will arrange the shipment of the humanitarian aid to Nepal.
