All seven on board the helicopter (Air Dynasty) carrying Nepal’s tourism minister, Rabindra Adhikari and 6 others were killed in a crash on Wednesday (Feb 27th) in Pathibhara in Taplejung district at around 1:30 pm.
“Traveling with the Minister Adhikari were the pilot of the helicopter Captain Prabhakar KC, tourism entrepreneur Ang Tsering Sherpa, security personnel Arjun Ghimire, Under-Secretary at the Prime Minister’s office Yubaraj Dahal, Deputy Director General of Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) Birendra Shrestha, and CAAN Engineer Dhruba Das Bhochhibhaya”, The Himalayan Times reported.
According to the report, the crash occured when Adhikari and his team were retiring back to Kathmandu after visiting Pathibhara temple. The trip was made to observe the ongoing construction of an airport in Chuhan Danda in Tehrathum.
“Raj Kumar Chhetri, general manager of Tribhuvan International Airport, which serves Kathmandu, Nepal’s capital, said the crash, in a region that borders both India and Tibet, had probably been caused by bad weather” reports New York Times.
All bodies of the deceased have been brought to Kathmandu and will be laid to rest in Tundhikhel on Friday for tribute.
